Where is it?: Maize Island Lagoon Conservation Park is located on the southern side of the River Murray, two kilometres east of Waikerie in the Riverland.

Property summary: Total area 214 hectares. Hundred of Holder – Sections 365, 427, 496, 497, 529 and 530.

History: Sections 365 (Maize Island Lagoon (= HolderLagoon)) and 427 were proclaimed as a Fauna Reserve on 1 December 1966. The area was re-proclaimed as Maize Island Conservation Park on 27 April 1972. Sections 496 and 497 were added 24 March 1977 and Sections 529 and 530 on 15 November 1984.
Habitat: There are a three major plant communities with the park:
- River Red Gum (Eucalyptus camaldulensis) and Riverbox (E. largiflorens) Woodland to OpenWoodland, with an understorey of Lignum (Muehlenbeckia cunninghamii), grasses and sedges, in low lying areas;
- Lignum Open Scrub with areas of River Red Gum seedlings, also found in low-lying areas; and
- a Tussock Grassland of exotic grasses and ephemerals in the cleared central part of the Park.

Common Species: Yellow Rosella, Brown Treecreeper, Purple-backed Fairywren, Noisy Miner, Willie Wagtail, Magpielark
Less Common Species: Regent Parrot, Pied Honeyeater, White-winged Fairywren, Gilbert’s Whistler, Grey Fantail, Red-capped Robin
